Welcome Message

Warm welcome to the 'Fourth International Symposium on GIS/ Spatial Analyses in Fishery and Aquatic Sciences' taking place in the beautiful, attractive and exciting city, Rio de Janeiro. The general theme is the same as in the past three Symposia, i.e., to emphasize GIS as a tool for conducting spatial analyses in aquatic sciences, which encompasses the ecosystem approach to fisheries management and the interrelationships between inland and marine fisheries and aquaculture, and the aquatic and terrestrial environments in which the activities take place. We have Dr Phil Scott, from Universidade Santa Úrsula as the local co-organizer who is working hard with us to make the Symposium as fruitful and successful as in the past. We are looking forwards to see you in August.

Dr Kiyoshi Itoh

Organizer

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to invite you all to participate in the traditional International Symposium on GIS/ Spatial Analyses in Fishery and Aquatic Sciences, now in it’s fourth edition.

My experience in having participated in past Symposia organized by Dr Tom Nishida and Dr Kiyoshi Itoh has been that it is an excellent place to meet experienced people with interest and innovative applications of GIS for conducting spatial analyses in aquatic sciences, including fisheries, aquaculture and conservation.

I hope to see you in Rio de Janeiro under a relaxed atmosphere where we can share ideas, present projects, show new developments and participate in discussions under the magical atmosphere of the Cidade Maravilhosa.

Welcome to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

Dr Philip C. Scott

Local co-organizer
